SENTENCE COMBINATION, Nov. 5th

Learning to combine ideas into more complex sentences is an important skill in writing. There are many ways to do this--many possible bonus points! Try to combine the following three sentences.

Sentence 1: Barack Obama easily won the US presidential election on November 4th and is now the president-elect.
Sentence 2: He will be sworn in as president on January 20th.
Sentence 3: Starting his presidency, he will face many financial and economic difficulties.

Although Barack Obama easily won the US presidential election on November 4th and he's now the president-elect, he'll be sworn as president on January 20th; then, he'll face many financial and economic difficulties as his presidency begins.

Sara: You're on the right track here; now pay attention to detail.
Seiko: That's a good way of doing it.

Sara: That's better but note that your use of "although" is incorrect--it means that the second clause would be an unexpected result of the first one, and that's not so.
Kelly: A good answer.

My mistake. Let me try it without the although :)

Barack Obama easily won the US presidential election on November 4th and is now the president-elect, he'll be sworn in as president on January 20th & will face many financial & economic difficulties.

I also thought the "as his presidency begins" was unnecessary in my previous post.

Sara: That is better, but remember that you need a semicolon between two independent clauses.
