GRAMMAR GIRL!
For a humourous look at grammar and some of the stickier grammatical situations, check out Grammar Girl. There is a site called Quick and Dirty Tips, and there is also a series of podcasts available. A book on the same topic has just been published. For those of you who are on Facebook, you might like to become a fan of Grammar Girl.
IDIOMS
If English is not your first language, then English idioms are probably difficult for you. The BBC has a site that provides interesting and crazy videos to explain a variety of idioms.

PUNCTUATION BASICS
1. When using an introductory phrase, remember to set it off with a comma.

WHAT'S NEW IN PUNCTUATION?
Have you ever heard of the interrobang? It’s a symbol that is cross between a question mark and an exclamation mark. Check some background information about it, and listen to a CBC podcast that includes a discussion of this interesting punctuation mark. However, there is a word of warning--don’t use it in formal academic writing.

For exercise 3, is is possible to write a sentence with your answer in it, instead of having the answer to each question separate and then writing a sentence to explain your answer?
For example:
1. Contrast - I choose this method because.......
or
1. In order to explain the difference between the two, the writer would use the Contrast method.
You should write two sentences, one with the answer and one to explain your answer. Aren't writing courses fun!!
Thanks Cara! The reason I asked was because I had completed the entire exercise and then read the instructions properly! Oh well, I shall redo it! I kinda figured as much!
So we can't write "The method I think the write is using is .... to explain ...." ???
Michelle: I'm not sure what your question relates to, but there is a fundamental problem with your sentence. "Write" is a verb; the article "the" is used before a noun. You've paired these two words together, but they don't fit. Change the word form of "write" to a noun form--writer, writing.
If I'm missing something more here, please explain further.
Sorry - spelling mistake. I mean't to say "The method I think the writer is using is..". I am questioning Vanessa's question further. She asked about exercise 3, and how to write the answer. I think I got it now though.. thank you.

The assignment2 tells us to read Units 2 and 3, but I found the unit3 is not talking about time-order staff; and the assignment 2 is about writing a time-order paragaph.
So my questions is that do we have to read Unit3 for assignment 2?
Jiaping: The suggestion is to read the resource materials (reading and lecture) in the resource files to give you more potential background information for your paragraph.
Hi everyone.....sounds like I might be behind in the course cause I just started Assignment 1. one of the problems I have is that i am always wondering if I am doing the questions right.
Vanessa: When you have questions like that, you should contact your tutor. Remember that your tutor is there to guide you through the course.
