SENTENCE COMBINATION, Feb. 24th 2010

Learning to combine ideas into more complex sentences is an important skill in writing. There are many ways to do this--many possible bonus points! Try to combine the following three sentences.


  1. February, having only 28 days, is the shortest month in the year.
  2. There have been many celebrations in this month from Chinese New Year, Valentine’s Day and Family day to religious events such as Lent.
  3. The interest in the Olympic Games this month has had many people glued to their television sets.

The shortest month of the year is February, with only 28 days but with many diverse celebrations such as Chinese New Year, Valentine’s Day, Family Day as well as religious events like Lent; this February includes the Olympic Games which has many people firmly glued to their television sets.

Having only 28 days, February, the shortest month of the year, has had many celebrations from Chinese New Year, Valentine’s Day and Family day to religious events such as Lent; and has even had the Olympic Games with many interested people glued to their television sets.
