HALF-WAY THERE CHALLENGE! Jan. 19th

This exercise is advanced sentence combining; it is designed for students who have completed Lesson 9 in the course.

Sentence 1: Barack Obama will be sworn in as the 44th president of the United States on January 20th.
Sentence 2: Obama will be the first African-American to become president.
Sentence 3: Because of current global problems, Obama will have a difficult task ahead of him.

1 . Use a gerund to combine the sentences.
2. Use an appositive to combine the sentences.
3. Use a relative pronoun to combine the sentences.

Appositive correction:

Barack Obama, the first African-American to become president, will be sworn in as the 44th president of the United States on January 20th; Obama will have a difficult task ahead of him because of current global problems.
